The Botanic Gardens

The Botanic Gardens is situated in Glasnevin, just 3km north of Dublin City centre. It is a large, well-managed garden with open grassland and a wide variety of trees. It is bordered by Glasnevin Cemetery and the Tolka River. In summer, common town and woodland species are found throughout the gardens, while Kingfisher, Grey Wagtail and, occasionally, Dipper can be found along the river. In winter, Redwings and Fieldfares are found while wintering finches and Blackcaps are also present. Waxwings have been seen on several occasions in winter and early spring. The Botanic Gardens is home to the Tolka Branch of Birdwatch Ireland.
