Tolka outing to Tachumshane, Co. Wexford: We were
blessed with a lovely sunny day, especially after all the rain in
the last week or two. We made our way to the High Car Park at the
lakeside and from there we got a good view through our scopes of
the Glossy Ibis across on the other side of lake. We
then made our way across the lake to the East End and the Island,
and were glad we brought our wellies as it was very wet marshland.
On our way we spotted a Little Gull, and Mute Swans
in flight. Also in the lake were the commoners - Coots,
Mallards, Swans with cygnets, Moorhen
We heard a Water Rail calling many times. A little later we
made our way to Linkstown hoping we would get a closer sighting of
Beaded Reedling, but alas no luck. Species observed: - Marsh
Harrier, Montague Harrier, Hen Harrier, Reed Warbler, Sedge
Warbler, Reed Bunting, Kestrel, Peregrine Falcon, Little
Gull, Common Tern, Godwits, Sparrowhawk, Coots, Mallards, Mute
Swans, Moorhen, and of course the Glossy Ibis.VH

Bull Island. 24 Whimbrel on the mudflats between the
Causeway and the Wooden Bridge today, easily seen from James
Larkin Road or the Causeway. A good time to see this passage
migrant, and a chance to note the differences between Whimbrel and
the larger Curlew. Recently fledged Black-headed Gulls
are now appearing among groups of adults. These juveniles will
soon lose their distinctive cinnamon markings as they moult into
first winter plumage.GF
